Robert Tiritilli plays with every shade of humor - wit, satire, irony, jesting, clowning. Such versatility dazzles as does his unwearied discipline of sports. Through the long, creative years this sportsman has never hit anyone below the belt.
With years of strong draftsman skills, Tiritilli helped create his outlandish style and talent of sports cartooning by dually employing representative portraiture, and cartoonish lightheartedness.
This cartoonist sketched his original artwork very loosely but with intent, in blue pencil and then utilized very spontaneously applied, inked brushwork. Incorporating the pen and ink technique, he is able to suggest shading with well-placed, expressive line work.
It is worth noting that most of Tiritilli's sports cartoons have no backgrounds. Clearly by only focusing on central players, Tiritilli is able to complete a cartoon in faster fashion, but his absence of background imagery also allows for cleaner, easier to distinguish, artwork. PhotoShop is used to enhance the drawings and In-Design was used to lay-out the pages of the book.
Note that Tiritilli has been an equine artist and avid participant in this glamorous sports for over 50 years. Tiritilli says, "Stretch your imagination and hopefully my humor will bring you luck in your future tracking." |
